Spring is the most inspiring of the seasons. Coming out of the darkness of winter, spring is a rebirth bringing forth that freshness and renewed energy.
Wouldn't it be great if we could benefit to spring’s energy in daily life?
In order to do so, we have to comprehend spring energy and therefore I shall take a brief detour first and explain life energy.
In short, life energy moves downward or upward. The downward movement brings forth darkness, coldness, and dampness. It symbolizes passivity, tranquility and stillness. Conversely, the upward movement brings light, heat, and dryness, which energizes and sets things in motion - it peps up, it makes things happen.
This interplay between dark and light, cold and heat, is like a cosmic dance.
The cyclical nature of the up and down movement can be observed in various aspects of life, such as day and night, the changing seasons, weather patterns, nutrition, and stages of life.
Spring, for instance, is associated with renewal and growth, as life energy gradually begins to move upward and leaving the cold and dark winter behind. After winter dormancy the sap flow resumes as a result of the upward moving life energy - the sun shines more often and for longer periods, and the days become warmer and longer.
This cycle is reflected in the alternation of day and night
The energy of spring can be felt every morning when night turns into day and nature awakens.
Watching the sunrise and observing the dusk fade as the vague outlines take shape and become brighter as the light increases. First, the rising sun emits a red glow that gradually turns in gold. In fact, I can’t express in words the sensation of this natural phenomenon other than magical.
In addition, experiencing the gradual transition from the calm and serene tranquility of the night to an active energy is also exciting as you can feel the fresh sparkle of a new day resonating. It's a wonderful start of the day.
This fully corresponds to the Dutch expression “Morgenstond heeft goud in de mond.” Directly translated to “The morning has gold in its mouth” this phrase means that those who wake early in the morning are rich with time and opportunity and it imparts the wisdom of waking up early in the morning and implies that those who do so are successful.
Perhaps the saying refers in some sense to "The early bird catches the worm"…? I’m not sure, but perhaps you can tell me by leaving a comment?
“Dawn is a friend of the muses”
Erasmus van Rotterdam, the most famous and influential humanist of the Northern Renaissance, wrote this phrase to encourage his students, advising that the best work one can do is often in the earliest hours of the day.
He walked his talk
“Erasmus was a man of great talent and industriousness who rose from obscure beginnings to become the leading intellectual figure of the early sixteenth century.
He was a leading writer on education, author of five influential treatises on humanist educational theory and even a greater number of widely used and often reprinted textbooks taught in humanistic schools throughout Europe, especially north of the Alps; the producer of excellent critical editions of the works of classical Greek and Latin authors, including translations of Greek texts into the Latin that all educated people of his time could read; and the editor and translator of the works of early Latin and Greek Church Fathers, especially important for translations of Greek patristic literature, which had been little known to the Western church during the Middle Ages; the author of books of spiritual counsel addressed mainly to educated laymen of his time, all written in Latin but...” Learn more

“The stillness of the early morning scene enables me to take in and enjoy many things which pass me by during the bustle of the day. First, there are the scents, which seem even more generous with their offerings than they are in the evening.”
Rosemary Verey
“When in the fresh mornings I go into my garden before anyone is awake, I go for the time being into perfect happiness.”
Cecilia Thaxter
The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you.
Don't go back to sleep.

Inspirational. I read this and kept thinking "what a great quote I must write it down and keep it with me" and then there is another quote to follow. I guess it is about noticing and being 'in tune' with the dawn each day. This year I am determined not to miss these times of day - those special, magical mornings with mist clearning and orange sun, changing to bright might. Thank you for sharing this.
Spring is for me the most wonderfull season of the year. Especially in the morning when the sun is rising you hear the birds. It is magic for me.
